Chasing the dragon

Heroin should be prescribed to drug addicts to curb crime, the deputy chief constable of Nottinghamshire has said at a drugs conference..He said the treatment would cost £12,000 a year per addict but added that drug users steal property valued at an average of £45,000 a year. The idea is being piloted in London, the South East and North of England.

I won’t step forward to say “that’s the way it should be“; opiate dependency and addiction are two different things..but neither will I condone drug use. No doubt it’s treading a thin line in saying: we’re not saying it’s okay, but we want to help because we understand that some drug users only turn into criminals because they’re desperate.
Maybe introduce a forced weaning programme for those who genuinely want out but can’t get out.

In other news, did you know I heart living in the UK very much? If not for the high currency exchange rate, it’s a no-brainer in choosing it for further studies. And all my conversations would start like this: “Where I come from, they hang those caught with more than 15grams of smack! Fucked up, innit?
